Type of Charters

We offer two types of charter: all-inclusive "crewed charter" and all-cost extra "crew-only charter". The latter is also referred to as "captain-only charter", although a deckhand may also be included at our discretion.

Crewed Charters - All-Inclusive

"Crewed charter"  refers to an all-inclusive charter where all food, beverages, wines, spirits and boat operating expenses are included, and full services are provided, such as handling the boat, cooking and house keeping.  Certain costs are extra, such as customs, immigrations and port authority fees, cruising permit, per-cruise trade and fishing permits and guest-requested dockage at a marina.

For a single couple, we offer the spacious forward cabin.  The port aft cabin is shared for storage and luggage.  For four guests, the port aft cabin and the forward cabin are offered.  Boat storage is in the Crew cabin.  Your luggage is stored in the forward hold and in your cabins.  A Charter contract will be signed.  Honiara will be delivered to you with full tanks of diesel,  water and outboard gas; two tanks of propane; holding tanks empty where applicable; and with a captain and a first mate/chef (unless otherwise specified in the contract).  Your crew plans the menu, shops for the groceries, prepares and serves food and drinks, and performs domestic chores such as preparing the boat for the charter.  The crew is responsible for the safety of the boat and its passengers, for the navigation, customs and immigration clearances, boat handling and seaworthiness of the boat, otherwise you control the itinerary and ports of call. Your party is welcome to participate in the operation of the boat, including helming, handling the lines during docking, anchoring and navigation. Even if you have no boating experience, with the crew on board, your vacation will be fun and safe.

Crew-Only Charters-All Costs Extra

Our "crew-only" charters are essentially bareboat charters with crew service included.  The difference with an all-inclusive Crewed Charter is that you are responsible for the costs of operating the boat during the charter: fuel, customs, immigration and port fees, dockage and mooring buoys, food and beverages for your party and the crew, and for performing all domestic tasks such as cleaning, preparing the food, etc.

For a single couple, we offer the spacious forward cabin.  For four people, the aft cabins are offered.  A Charter contract will be signed.  Honiara I will be delivered to you with full tanks of diesel,  water and outboard gas; two tanks of propane; holding tanks empty where applicable; one set of bed linen per cabin; one set of towels per person per week; and with a captain and usually a first mate (the latter at our discretion, as specified in the contract).  You plan the menu, shop for the groceries, prepare the food and perform domestic chores such as cleaning the boat.  You will be responsible for returning the boat by the agreed time in the same condition as when the Charter started, reasonably clean, with the diesel, gas and water tanks refilled and the holding tanks empty.  We will take care of the propane tanks and the laundry.  The captain and the crew are responsible for the safety of the boat and its passengers, for the navigation, maneuvering and seaworthiness of the boat, otherwise you are in charge. Your party will be welcome to participate in the operation of the boat, including helming, handling the lines during docking, anchoring, navigation, and customs and immigration clearance. Even if you have no boating experience, with the crew on board, your vacation will be fun and safe.

Charters with Sailing Instruction

ISPA Sailing instruction may be part of a Crewed or Crew-Only Charter.  When sailing instruction is included, the charter activities and itinerary will be modified to accommodate the training plan.  It is recommended that all guests take the same training, as the training activities will take priority.  We offer the following modules: Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Navigator, Coastal Skipper Advanced Sail and Canadian Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC).  These certificates makes good references when chartering bareboat.  See Rates, Terms and Conditions for rate information.

Choosing a Charter Duration

The Virgin Islands comprise over 70 islands spread over 40 miles, of which 25 are inhabited.  Activities are numerous: swimming, snorkeling, beautiful beaches,  hiking, touring, sampling local restaurants and bars, beach parties, happy hour events, and so on.  A 7-day charter allows for sampling many destinations and many activities but if you wish to visit locations such as Anegada, a 10-day, or even a 14-day charter is recommended.  A longer charter also allows more flexibility to manage weather and to spend more time in a location that you like.
